Thoughts About the Art Life
A Beautiful Time
"Beauty is everywhere a welcome guest"...von Goethe
There have been several blogs as well as website posts about the re-emergence of beauty in art. I am a part of this underground movement. I paint the beauty I see revealed to me through the play of light. I paint this because it speaks to me. I don't paint things because they are pretty pictures. I paint them because they bring happiness to me.
My work has often been trivialized as being "pretty pictures". Hopefully they are that on one level. However they are more than that...they are discoveries. They invite the viewer to look at the world the way I see it. Sometimes I delight in the brushwork that supports the painting. Sometimes I love the filtered light that I see.
My paintings are perhaps more user-friendly that an abstract that makes the viewer wonder what it is that they are supposed to see. Yes you can see the subject...perhaps a willow in snow.
What is so special about that? Look more closely...

"Enlightened", oil. 10x8"
Isn't it more than that? It is paint..colors...light...brush strokes...
Merry Christmas.
