Thoughts About the Art Life
Bringing Back Memories

Siena Style
The weather here has not been favorable for plein air painting so I have been working from reference material gathered from my travels this fall. In painting this piece I remembered how dramatic the light was one morning when my friend and I were walking along the medieval streets near our hotel. I loved that experience and painting brought it all back...Art can evoke your senses and you can travel back in time...very inexpensively!
Poster Art

High Country Hike, Breckenridge Music Festival 2008 Poster
I was thrilled when I received a call from the gallery that sponsors the Breckenridge Music Festival's poster contest. My painting was selected for the 2008 poster! If you have been following my blogs you know that I have feelings about the current print market. How do I feel now that I am a part of a published poster? My opinions remain the same...A poster is just that...a poster. It is not the same as an original work of art. When comparing the original to the poster a lot is lost...the color isn't the same, etc. The poster is not in a limited edition, it isn't hand-pulled...it isn't a print.
The sales of this particular poster will benefit the music culture of Breckeridge, CO.That is the part I am excited about.
People do collect the posters from year to year. The value will be the poster, not the art.
